Laurie A. Wilms
1956 – 2013

On November 18th, 2013 Laurie Wilms became ill at work, and passed away from a massive heart attack at St. Elizabeth’s Boardman Health Center. Laurie Wilms or, as many knew her, Miss Laurie lived in the Columbiana area her entire life. She attended Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Columbiana, and was the teacher and administrator of J.L.C. Preschool for more than thirty years. Miss Laurie enjoyed planning fundraising events to help J.L.C. Preschool, and she ran the scholarship program to help children who would otherwise not be able to attend preschool. Each week the kids in the preschool could look forward to meeting one of Miss Laurie’s pets. She loved animals as well as children. Miss Laurie enjoyed nurturing, caring for and rehabilitating animals, which lead to her having all kinds of pets, everything from cats and dogs to rabbits, turtles, crabs, chickens and goats. Her love of animals lead to her working at Fairfield Animal Hospital as a veterinary assistant. Miss Laurie’s actions showed how much of a caring person she really was, with everything from rehabilitating injured animals to running the scholarship program for children in need she showed her endlessly giving and kind personality.
